Fingerless Gloves to match...
After I made my Windy City Twist I still had some of the yarn left so I decided to work on some wrist warmers. I wanted to use the basic rib but also wanted to add in some interest with cables resembling a twist. I couldn't find a pattern was working for me, so I just got started with the rib. Then I decided to just start putting in cables and see how it worked out. It wasn't quite what I had in mind, but I like it and I made it up so that somehow makes it better :-) It was kind of complicated getting the cables to work on the left glove, but making it work backwards on the right glove was even more of a challenge. With that being said, here is my pattern:
BOTH GLOVES: CO 36 st on 7 dpns
k1, p1 in the round until ~4 1/2 inches
LEFT GLOVE
k1, p1, k16, *k1, p1, repeat from *; work this for three rows or ~ 5 inches
Begin the cable pattern
1) k1, p1, k2, c4b, k4, c4f, k2, *k1, p1, repeat from *
2) (begin knitting out of the round) (k1, p1)x8, k1, p16, k1, p1
3) k1, p1, k1, c4b, k6, c4f, k1, *k1, p1, repeat from *
4-6) even rows repeat row 2
5) k1, p1, k2, c4f, k4, c4b, k2, *k1, p1, repeat from *
7) k1, p1, k3, c4f, k2, c4b, k3, *k1, p1, repeat from *
8) (begin knitting in the round) k1, p1, k16, *k1, p1, repeat from *
9) k1, p1, k4, c4f, c4b, k4, *k1, p1, repeat from *
10-20) even rows repeat row 8
11) k1, p1, k4, c4b, c4f, k4, *k1, p1, repeat from *
13) k1, p1, k3, c4b, k2, c4f, k3, *k1, p1, repeat from *
15) repeat row 1
17) repeat row 3
19) k1, p1, c4b, k8, c4f, *k1, p1, repeat from *
21-22) repeat row 8
23) bind off
RIGHT GLOVE
(k1, p1) x9, k16, k1, p1; work this for three rows or ~ 5 inches
Begin the cable pattern
1) (k1, p1) x9, k2, c4b, k4, c4f, k3, p1
2) (begin knitting out of the round) k1, p17, (k1, p1) x9
3) (k1, p1) x9, k1, c4b, k6, c4f, k2, p1
4-6) even rows repeat row 2
5) (k1, p1) x9, k2, c4f, k4, c4b, k3, p1
7) (k1, p1) x9, k3, c4f, k2, c4b, k4, p1

Sneaky Snake
Sneaky Snake is done and Jonathan is happy! He decided on adding the eyes and tongue and I think that makes it extra cute!
I think this yarn worked so great for this project... at some angles you don't notice the cables and some you do.
I improvised on the end of the pattern a bit so that both sides would match. After finishing row 24 of my last set of the pattern I followed the pattern backwards starting with row 9. Once I had cast off I found some black yarn and knotted two pieces on for eyes and a bit of pink yarn was knotted on for the tongue.

Sneaky Snake
Ooo-hoo... I'm working TWO projects at once! Look out! Haha... so I had this green unknown yarn and thought it looked #1 great for a boy, and #2 like it should be a creature. I decided on snake and went looking for a pattern. I found one that fit just right. As I started going, I wasn't sure this yarn would work because of all the texture in it. I've done two repeats and I'm starting to think it's just right. The extra texture is working with this and you can still see the snake, it's just not totally obvious... kind of like a real snake, could be hiding in the grass or something. I might even add a little pink tongue when it's finished!

Stay-put Baby Blanket-Finished
I left off with 26 rows on my last post about this... I ended up stopping the cable pattern at 106 rows, which was about 14 1/2 inches long. I refered back to the Nocte for decreasing. I had to make some alterations due to the number I'd cast on along with other little things that I wanted to look differently.
Rows 107-111 K1, P1 around.
R112 K7, K2tog, and repeat
R113 K2tog, K38, and repeat
R114 K6, K2tog, ending with K6
R115 Knit
R116 K5, K2tog, ending with K6
R117 Knit
R118 K4, K2tog
R119 Knit
R120 K3, K2tog
R121 Knit
R122 K2, K2tog
R123 Knit
R124 K1, K2tog
I decided I wanted more of a seam look so I ended here and did a 3 needle bind out after turning the piece inside out. One could continue with R125 Knit and R126 K2tog all around and then weave a long tail through the remaining stitches, pull tight, knot and weave the end in.
I can't wait to find out how well it really fits a baby! Got a couple more months for that... but in a few weeks, I'll find out if my knitted items will be well received by the mom-to-be :-)

Stay-put Baby Blanket
Yes, yet another baby item... this is the big one! I wanted to make something that followed the idea of my favorite kind of baby pj's, the baby "bag". Instead of legs, which can be difficult to get a squirmy little baby into, the bottom was just a bag so the baby would keep warm but still have room to kick.
I found one pattern that was closest to my idea, called Nocte, on ravelry. I wanted something more eye catching and decided cables would do the trick. I also didn't feel that the sizing was quite right, at least not with the yarn I ended up using.
I cast on 80 st with Lion Brand Yarns Pound of Love in Pastel Green (unknown baby sex) and followed Nocte in using k1, p1 on size 7 dpns for 8 rows.
Row 9 *k7, kfb, *repeat
Row 10 k
Row 11 *k11, c4b, *repeat
Row 12-14 k
Row 15 k3, c4f, *k11, c4f, *repeat, end with k8
Row 16-18 k
Repeat rows 11-18.
In the picture above I've ended with row 26, so I've got plenty more to go... I'm thinking the length should be around 12-15 inches, but I'll wait and see how it's looking. I'm still a little concerned that the waist isn't large enough, but from all the baby patterns I've read, it should be ok. I guess 4 years is long enough to forget how small a newborn really can be!

Bibs!
Loving these bibs! They have a cable along the side which then makes up the neck strap... these are #2 and #3, blue is for my cousin having her 4th (a boy) and the other is multi-colored for my cousin have her 1st (unknown). I also did a seafoam one for my cousin having her 1st but I don't have it with me anymore... I could make these all day long! I found the pattern on ravelry.com and will post it later when I have more time and when I have more pics :-)

Cabled Scarf?
While searching for one last skein of yarn for my cabled purse I started this scarf to keep me busy and practice my cables. I had some yarn left over from mum's scarf so I cast on 26 using size 10's. I followed basically the same theme as the purse's cables but with a little more pattern... I p1, k4, p1, k4, p1, k4, p1, k4, p1, k4, p1 on the "right" side and k1, p4, k1, p4, k1, p4, k1, p4, k1, p4, k1 on the "wrong". Every other time I was on the "right" side I cabled, p1, set 2 aside, k2, move 2 back, k2, p1, set 2 aside, k2, move 2 back, k2, p1, set 2 aside, k2, move 2 back, k2, p1, set 2 aside, k2, move 2 back, k2, p1, set 2 aside, k2, move 2 back, k2, p1.
Right now it's looking short and as you can see in the picture, not much yarn left to work with. Maybe it'll be more like a neck warmer :-)

Cabled Purse
This is a cabled purse that was created by havfaith. It is my first attempt at cabling and I love it! It's so simple and looks so cool and complicated. I always thought it was difficult so avoided it at all costs.
So, the pattern is very... hmmm... variable? Mine was done using N.Y. Yarns Grande in Colour 05 which I believe is some kind of Rose. It is very thick so I cast on (I also learned a new way to cast on!) 28 using size 17 needle. Roughtly, the pattern is, starting on the right side, p2, k4, p1, k4, p1, k4, p1, k4, p1, k4, p2. Next row k2, p4, k1, p4, k1, p4, k1, p4, k1, p4, k2. Just keep repeating that. Then, on the first cabled row, p2, k4, p1, hold two aside, k2, put the two back on, k2, p1, k4, hold two aside, k2, put the two back on, k2, p1, k4, p2. The other cabled row is k2, hold two aside, p2, put the two back on, p2, k1, p4, k1, hold two aside, p2, put the two back, p2, k1, p4, hold two aside, p2, put the two back on, p2, k2. Just cabling whenever it looks like it needs it. The most difficult thing was putting on the handles and sewing up the sides :-(
The next step will be to get some fabric to line the inside so items will not fall out of the purse. I plan to avoid sewing and use that fuse stuff to iron the fabric to the purse. This will then make a lovely Christmas gift... and if the recipient is not as pleased with it as me, they'll have to return it so someone who really likes it can enjoy it!
